Dear readers, it is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Volume 65, Issue 4, of the Revista Portuguesa de Estomatologia, Medicina Dentária e Cirurgia Maxilofacial. This issue marks yet another milestone in the dissemination of high-quality research and clinical advancements within the field of Dental Medicine. We extend our warmest congratulations to the authors whose studies have been published in this edition, reflecting their dedication and contribution to the advancement of dental science and oral health care.

This issue comprises five original research papers and two intriguing case reports, each contributing valuable insights to their respective areas. The research paper titled “Psychometric properties of the dental fear schedule subscale in a Portuguese pediatric population: exploratory study”1 evaluates the reliability and validity of this psychometric tool in Portuguese children, offering a culturally tailored approach to better understand and manage dental fear in pediatric patients. In “Oral health-related quality of life and levels of anxiety and depression in individuals with oral potentially malignant disorders”,2 the authors shed light on the psychological burden associated with these conditions, emphasizing the need for a holistic approach to managing patients with potentially malignant oral lesions. The study “Correlation between the upper airway volume and Ricketts’ facial biotypes: a cone-beam computed tomography study”3 explores the relationship between airway morphology and facial biotypes, providing new perspectives on craniofacial development and its implications in orthodontic and respiratory health. The in-vitro pilot study

“Effectiveness of three biomimetic remineralization procedures in artificial caries-affected dentin – an in-vitro pilot study”4 examines innovative remineralization techniques, offering promising strategies for managing early carious lesions and advancing minimally invasive dentistry. In “Local anesthesia with and without conscious sedation versus general anesthesia for oral surgical procedures in pediatric patients: a retrospective cross-sectional study”,5 the authors compare anesthetic approaches, providing valuable insights to optimize safety and comfort in pediatric oral surgery.

The case reports included in this issue highlight the complexities and unique challenges encountered in clinical practice.

The report “Tuberculosis of the tongue in a patient under treatment with adalimumab”6 stresses the diagnostic challenges and implications of immunosuppressive therapy. In turn, “Avulsion, swallowing, and replantation of a central incisor: a case report”7 offers an extraordinary account of a rare dental trauma scenario, emphasizing the importance of prompt and skillful intervention.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind our readers that, due to recent indexation requirements, the jornal will only publish studies written in English starting from Vol ume 66, Issue 1, 2025. This change is aimed at increasing the visibility and accessibility of our publication on an international level. Submissions already under review in Portuguese will also need to meet this requirement. Accepted papers originally submitted in Portuguese must be translated into English if the authors wish to proceed with publication in our journal. We thank you for your understanding and support during this transition.

Lastly, we encourage the readers to explore Volume 65, Supplement 1, 2024, which features the scientific abstracts from the XLIV Congresso Anual da Sociedade Portuguesa de Estomatologia e Medicina Dentária, the XXXV Reunião Científica Anual da Sociedade Portuguesa de Ortopedia Dento-Facial, and the IV Congresso da Sociedade Portuguesa de Endodontologia. These events showcase cutting-edge research and foster invaluable discussions within our community. We hope you find this issue informative and inspiring.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to receiving your contributions as we advance together in the field of Dental Medicine.
